Asim Saleem Bajwa appointed new DG ISPR


 Chief of Army Staff General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani on Friday has appointed Major General Asim Bajwa as the new director general of the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) and spokesman for the Pakistan army.
According to Private TV channel sources, the appointment and transfer orders of related officers have been issued. Major General Athar Abbas, the incumbent of the office, is due to retire in June, 2012.
Meanwhile about 14 Major Generals have been transferred from their offices to different positions.
They include Major General Ghayoor Ahmad, Major General Nadir Zaib, Major General Hadayatur Rehman, Major General Tariq Javed, and Major General Farrakh Bashir while Major General Abaid Bin Zakria, Major General Sajjad Ali Khan, Major General Mazhar Jamil, Major General Sadiq Ali and Major General Ashiq Khataq have also been appointed.
Bajwa was posted in Dera Ismail Khan as a general officer commanding for the past two years. Under Bajwa’s leadership, the army conducted military operations in the South Waziristan tribal region to eliminate militancy and restore peace.
Prior to that, Bajwa served as the deputy military secretary under Pervez Musharraf.
Major General Asim Bajwa will take on responsibilities of the new office after Abbas retirment in June.
Major General Asim Saleem Bajwa was commissioned on 16th Mar 1984 in Punjab Regiment. Has commanded 34 Punjab Regiment and has been the commander of 111 brigade.
He has been chief of Staff of a Corps, Instructor at Command and Staff Course, Brigade Major of Infantry Brigade, Platoon Commander at Pakistan Military Academy. He is a graduate of command and staff college Quetta, NDU Islamabad and Staff College Camberly (UK).
